KYLE, TEXAS

Kyle Texas is located on approximately eight miles north of San Marcos and twenty miles south of Austin on Interstate Highway 35. Kyle is considered part of the Austin-San Marcos metropolitan area. Kyle comprises of farm land to the east of IH-35 and ranch land to the west of IH-35. The City of Kyle was established on July 24, 1880, when David E. Moore and Fergus Kyle, for whom the town was named, deeded 200 acres for a town-site. The new town-site drew residents and businesses from nearby Mountain City and Blanco. The community's population exceeded 500 by 1882 but later declined due to the economic slump. Kyle was incorporated in 1928 as a city with a mayor and five council members. In 1937 Mary Kyle Hartson, daughter of Fergus Kyle, was elected mayor. In the early 1940s Kyle was noted as the only Texas town with an all-woman government.

In the 1980s the City of Kyle was added in to the Hays Consolidated Independent School District. The City of Kyle had five new residential subdivisions. In 1989 Kyle opened a pre-release prison facility with "minimal to medium" security and housed those who were being prepared for re-entry into the society. In the early 1990s Kyle reported a population growth of 2,256 and had a library, a post office, a newspaper, a medical clinic, a strip shopping center, two banks, three grocery stores, and four churches. The City of Kyle has been home to San Jacinto hero, John Wheeler Bunton, Rhodes scholar Terrell Sledge, American League baseball pitcher C. C. "Tex" Hughson, Ambassador Edwin J. Kyle, historian Milton Nance, and famous authors Katherine Anne Porter and Lena Hamilton Kirkland. Local historical attractions include Katherine Ann Porter House, Kyle Hanging Tree, Cemeteries, Claiborne Kyle Log House, Kyle Auction Oak and Fergus Kyle Tombstone.

In 1990s Kyle´s population has grown by about 139%. Since 2005 Kyle´s population has recorded growth by about 43%. In 2010, the City of Kyle has recorded 7,177 households with about 81% of Kyle homes are owner-occupied. Today, Kyle home market continues to be one of the most dynamic and exciting real estate markets and is recorded as the fifth fastest growing city in the State of Texas. According to AOL Real Estate website, Kyle homes have appreciated 2.7% over the recent last 12 months. Now Kyle is the home to more than twenty developed subdivisions and the 2006 Master Planned Community of the Year, Plum Creek. Like other small town Texas the City of Kyle is striving to maintain its small town Texas image while positioning itself to be a vital part of the Corridor Economic Development Program. The City Hall of Kyle has launched a new Economic Development Strategic Plan that would re-shape the City´s economic base and the City of Kyle will continue to grow for years to come!
